Reasons Your Car Battery Keeps Dying
Given the average number of years spent driving, you are bound to come across a dead car battery. It may be easy to blow it off the first time it happens, but when it occurs again and again, there is no denying that something is wrong. Read our blog to learn more.
There are multiple reasons that your car battery keeps on dying – some that are simple fixes and others that call for a mechanics help.
Headlights Are Left On
In older models of cars, it may be necessary for the driver to manually turn off headlights This task is easy to forget, especially if it has been a long day and all you want to do is go to bed. It is not uncommon for this to completely drain your battery overnight. Keep an eye out for any lights, including interior lights, before heading inside for the night.
Weak Battery
Batteries that are in poor condition do not hold a charge very well. Small functions that wouldn’t normally cause the battery to die have a much greater impact in draining it. The best way to address this would be to invest in a new battery.
Extreme Temperatures
For the vehicles with a weak battery, extremely hot or cold weather may shock the battery and cause it to fail. Test your battery’s voltage and if it comes out fine, it shouldn’t be affected by the weather. Otherwise, take it to the shop for a replacement battery.
Faulty Charging System
The charging system takes over once the engine is running to ensure the battery is working. Loose or stretched belts can prevent the alternator from working properly and the result is a dead battery. If the alternator belt is loose, try to tighten it. If you can’t do it yourself, take your vehicle to the shop to get the charging system looked at.
Corroded Battery Connections
A visual inspection of your battery can result in noticing corrosion around the battery terminals, cables, or connectors. Corrosion in between your battery terminals and cable connections will interfere with the ability of the starter motor to draw current from the battery. If this is stunted, it inhibits the charging system from topping off the battery.
Dead batteries are very annoying to have to deal with. Leave the worrying to us! We would be more than happy to take a look at your battery and replace it if necessary.
