What to Know About Tire Rotations
When it comes to your vehicle, having your tires rotated regularly will save you money, extend the life of your tires & improve your vehicle’s performance while you’re out driving around town. Read more to learn the ins & outs of tire rotations.
Tire rotations are easily misunderstood but don’t let a lack of understanding lead you to nix them from your maintenance schedule.
What is a tire rotation?
When at the shop, our technicians will carefully inspect your tires for appropriate air pressure & any unusual tread wear patterns before they remove the tires from the vehicle. The tires will then be moved to a new spot, either back to front, left to right or sometimes even diagonally. In general, the technician will also inspect your braking system as a precaution.
Why do you need your tires rotated?
Tire rotation is crucial if we want our tires to wear evenly. The front tires can often wear in a different pattern than the rear tires. Moving the tires around can extend the life of your tires by thousands of miles. Not only can skipping a tire rotation shorten the life of your tires, but it can also affect your driving experience. Don’t expect a smooth ride.
How often should you get your tires rotated?
We often suggest that you turn to your vehicle’s owner’s manual for an exact recommendation. However, in general, we recommend getting your tires rotated every 6,000 to 8,000 miles or at every oil change. If you notice uneven wear and tear on the tires yourself, regardless of the mileage, bring it in to the shop to take a look.
