Why Does Your Car Battery Keep Dying?

There are many mechanical and electrical components that are crucial to keeping your vehicle running! One of those key components is your car battery. 

A car battery is often the most underrated and most important piece of equipment your car needs to power on & drive, without it you could never  start your vehicle. The primary function of your car’s battery is to start the engine by powering the starter motor to provide electric power to the spark plugs in order to ignite your vehicle’s fuel. Your car battery also provides power for other components such as its lights, horn and climate control system, among other things.

Batteries can last anywhere from 3 to 4 years, on the high end, but regardless of the age, there are a variety of reasons why your car battery keeps dying.

Extremely hot or cold temperatures

An older or weaker battery can continuously die in extreme temperatures. Many have trouble starting their cars in the very cold winter months or the very hot summer months. This could easily be the reason why your car battery keeps dying.

Headlights left on

Even if they are dim, leaving your headlights on overnight or for days in a row can easily drain your car battery. Be sure you are always checking that all interior lights have gone off when you exit your vehicle.

Short drives

If you are taking mainly short drives, this could be why your car battery keeps dying. Your battery is meant to supply power to your ignition. If you are only taking short drives in which your car doesn’t have enough time to recharge, your battery’s lifespan could be affected.
